Inappropriate, dangerous tour guide

Hello all,

My girlfriend, 22, just finished climbing Kilimanjaro which, despite my objections, she climbed alone. The leader of her porter group harassed her about tipping the whole time she climbed the mountain, and seems to have taken an inappropriate liking to her.

She is now staying the night in a hotel in Moshi, and unfortunately this man (his name is Noah, he works for the Ahsante tour service, anyone know him?) knows the hotel and her room number. He's already contacted her, intoxicated, via the front desk and has tried to coax her into coming out with him. Obviously she refused. She went back to her room and called me, crying.

Luckily she's beginning her four-day trip back home (Denver) tomorrow morning Tanzania time; about 9 hours from now. However she still does not feel safe and I don't feel safe for her whatsoever. She has pepper spray and a whistle with her, but other than that she's alone. No friends, no internet.

Does anyone have any advice about how to handle this situation? I doubt there's much I can do, but obviously I'm desperate. I wrote down her hotel location and tour company information, but that's all I have. I'm unfamiliar with Tanzanian culture and police legitimacy, but from what I've heard the latter is unreliable. Is anyone familiar with this Kili porter named Noah? Any suggestions?

Not much anyone can do without more facts.

This situation is most unusual indeed. She seems to be dong all the right things. Stay in the room, keep it locked and if necessary involve the Hotel Management. LOSE the Pepper spray. It is probably illegal so if the Police did get involved it would be her charged not the guide.

No doubt he is sleeping it off by now.

Why not phone the tour company?

Better they know now, when they may be able to help, rather in a weeks time when its all water under the bridge.

She should have the hotel desk escort her to a taxi to take her to the airport. If it were myself I would have the desk contact the local police and ask them to put a guard on her and escort her to the airport. Are they reliable, no not really but they are all there is. They might even ask for a payment and I would give it to them if she is really scared.

Stay in the room and only leave to go to the airport. Do not go anyplace unless she is escorted, she can hire a person to do this.

This is issue is very sensitive and Tourism industry is very delicated field.More that is Criminal issue.

Ahsante Tour is well organized Company but will have to get involved on this for more explanation.

The Guide is the human being and does not stand for the whole company but is there for a company as representative.

I think will have to write to the Tour Company and CC to Hotel.

The main think is to have some thing in writing from both parties. Then post them here for more assistance from other experts and travellers.
