Two weeks on my own in Tanzania

I'm off to Tanzania in a few weeks by myself. I've been doing lots of research but have been getting a bit nervous about Dar. I've been told various stories about people being robbed/harassed there. I fly in and out of there, any tips on minimising the chance of any problems?

After much faffing about my route, I'm now thinking of one night in Dar, then going to Saadani National Park, then over to Zanzibar for the rest of my trip. Will I be missing out terribly if I don't go up to the huge national parks and the crater?

Any other advice? I'm going to get a yellow fever vaccination this week hopefully, and find out about malaria medication. Is it really necessary to bring a mosquito net with me?
