Good fiction reads for Tanzania culture, history?

Hi, have you suggestions on fiction to help us better feel E Africa and TZ specifically?

We will be in Tanzania (fingers crossed) in September 2013 for a few weeks. Amazon.com has suggestions and so does this 2011 post but I was wondering if there were other suggestions. tripadvisor.com/…36539653

(BTW,am confused whether it's more polite to continue an old thread or start a new thread with my questions...could someone school me up? This guideline does not say: http://www.tripadvisor.com/help/what_are_the_guidelines_for_posting_in_the_forums)

Many thanks!

Better to start a new thread with your questions but in some cases you can add onto an old one a lot depends on the questions of course.

Try this Stephen lister Everything smelt of Kippers

The Jungle Doctor series by Paul White in particular Eyes on Jungle Doctor.

I don't know if I am repeating myself but I will mention these...

On to Kilimanjaro by Brian Gardner

Momella by Maximilian von Rogister

The Zanzibar Chest by Aiden Hartley

On Safari by Armand Denis

just a few....

also I would try and find some novels by Tony Park.

For the best answers to your questions, it is better to start a new thread.

for anyone looking for non-fiction, I recommend "Into Africa, A Guide to Sub-Saharan Culture and Diversity" 2nd edition, by Yale Richmond and Phyllis Gestrin.

Awesome book if you want to learn about many aspects of African culture

Wow, I had no idea I had such a variety to choose from. Travel, and even research for travel, sure opens up one's mind. Appreciate the non fiction suggestion, too, Kathy. Thanks!
