First off I would like to say what a wealth of information I have found on the Tanzania forums, thank you to all of you that take the time to share your experience! I now ask you to send some expertise my way if you please…
This will be a first safari for all of us, two mums with their respective kids, my 15 yr old son and my friends’ 16 yr old daughter and 12 yr old son. Traveling from the end of December through the first week of January. We have a hopeful budget of $250-$300 per day per person - happy to spend less! Rather give up comfort over days. However I don't want to have to put up my own tent. Our tentative itinerary is as follows;
1 night Arusha Planet Lodge
1 night Manyara Wildlife Lodge or maybe Kirurumu Tented Camp
2 nights Nduku Ndutu Safari Lodge (New Years Eve)
3 nights Central Serengeti Kati Kati Camp OR put the 3rd night somewhere else
1 nights Ngorongoro crater Sofi Lodge
1 night Arusha Planet Lodge. I could re-allocate this night too, as our flight would leave at 21:30 so we could just arrive in Arusha in the afternoon and get a day(evening) room to shower and change before going to the airport. Maybe put in a stop between Ngorongoro and Arusha to have more time in the crater.
I gather that the migration typically (no guarantee, animal free will and all) is in the Ndutu area by Christmas. However this year they were further west. Should I move Ndutu to after central Serengeti(January 4th) in hopes the migration has arrived by then? I would love a chance to see a river crossing but I guess I am out of luck for this time of year or is there a river that may get some action around New Years?
So many options/questions!
I am open to any suggestions? Thanks in advance!!
