Best of Tanzania-Kenya 2014

Hi,

I am looking for at itinerary of about 12 to 14 days to visit best parks in Kenya and Tanzania in September 2014. Initially I was considering only Tanzania but now I am considering adding some of the parks in Kenya. This is what I have in mind.

Arusha - Arrival, stay one night - Onsea house or similar

Tarangire - drive from Arusha, stay 2 nights - Tarangire safari lodge or Oliver's camp

Ngorongoro - 2 nights - Explorean Lodge

Serengeti - 3 nights - fly from Ngorongoro - Sayari camp

Masai Mara - 2 nights - fly from sayari - Asilia Rekoro camp

Masia Mara - 2 nights - Asila Naboisho camp

Fly to Nairobi - end of safari

Goal is to have best game view (big 5) and Migration experience of a lifetime.

Is anything redundant? Am I missing anything such as Central Serengeti or Amboseli or Samburu ?

Please advise. I would very much appreciate your feedback.

Thank you

If you can add 2 nights then I would drive from Ngorongoro to Central Serengeti and then fly to the North from Seronera.Everything else is okay.

Thanks. Any particular area in Central Serengeti? Would Dunia camp or Pioneer be fine location wise or do you recommend something else?

I don't know Pioneer as it is new but Dunia would be excellent.

So in your opinion it is ok to do both, Northern Serengeti near Mara river and Masai Mara in Kenya.

So basically it will be 3 nights in Northern Serengeti and 4 nights in Masai Mara in September.

In September, does Dunia camp area have great wildlife experience?

Yes I would do both if the migration is what you are interested in. You hav ehedged your bets.

The Serengeti is vast and there is more to it that the migration of wildebeest. Lions, leopards, elephants, cheetah. Topi and other antelopes. Not to mention the acacia trees and that common vista not seen up North.

Central Serenegti has a far better overall experience wildlife wise that wildebeest crossings.

So yes I would stay at Dunia you never know what you might see.

Pioneer Camp is new (opened early '13) and located south Serengeti near the Kopjes; Dunia is a bit north of here. Both better for period Dec-Mar. I wouldn't consider either to be truly in Central and it would be a bit of a haul to Seronera for flight or even drive to Kogatende. If you want to stop in Central, maybe consider Lemala Ewanjan.

How long is the drive from the Ngorongoro crater to Lemala Ewanjan?

Is there a game viewing on the way?

How far is the airstrip to go to North (Sayari) from there?

Do you recommend any other Lemala property by the Mara river in lieu of Sayari for migration in September?

Still bit confused about visiting Sayari and Rekoro-Naboisho in Masai Mara. It would increase the chances of seeing migration but is it redundant? It will require more time and budget.

Back to the same question, whether to include Masai Mara or not?

Back to the same question, whether to include Masai Mara or not?

If this is your main question I would just stick to Tanzania especially if time and budget are restraints.

From Ngorongoro to the central Serengeti area it is about 4 hours at most with game viewing on the way.

Going back to this then you can cut out Kenya..if that is your wish and spend more time at each location in Tanzania and maybe add some other things of interest.

There is cheaper accomodation, in the Mara River area..the Wildfrontiers camp for example.

Thanks. If we can allow extra time and budget then the options are,

1. Do Central Serengeti, Northern Serengeti and Masai Mara

2. Skip Central Serengeti but do North and Masai Mara

3. Do Central Serengeti and Northern Serengeti and skip Masai Mara

I guess option 1 is the best and hopefully no redundancy.

If we can not choose option 1 then we have to decide between option 2 and 3. Which one is better?

10. Re: Best of Tanzania-Kenya 2014

If it was me I would do option 3 choosing between 2 and 3.

reasons: put simply.

1. In my opinion Tz has better overall wildlife viewing than Kenya and is probably less crowded.

2. Central Serenegti shouldn't be missed it has excellent wildlife viewing overall.

3. Option 3 can be an easy flowing itinerary without the loss of a chance of seeing a river crossing if you include a flight at the end of the safari.

4. There are heaps of other things to see in Tz. apart from wildebeest.

Just my opinion.
