Injections needed for Tunisia

Hello,

I am taking my two teenage daughters to Tunisia in July and have been advised to get their injections up to date. Can anyone advise if this is really necessary as most people i talk to have not bothered.

I understand its better to be safe than sorry but with the price at about €200 each it works out very expensive.

Thanks

Hi,

£200 each? Goodness, what are they trying to inject you with? Liquid Gold????

We pay nothing for ours, not even the prescription charge. As far as I'm aware, the uptodate ones req'd for Tunisia are the same as Egypt; they certainly were last time we checked. That will be polio, diptheria, tetanus (daughters may be up to date with them if they had them at school at 15'ish; they last 10 yrs) The other 2 will be typhoid & Hep A. Hep A will last for 25 yrs after the course (just had my booster) & typhoid needs a booster evry 3 yrs. That can be contracted anywhere, I've a friend who aught it in Spain.

have always kept ours up to date. staying in resort doesn't guarantee safety as I know someone who contracted Hep A (took the risk of no jab in Egypt) from probably contaminated salad, handled by a waiter. At least, that's what her GP said.

I know folk in Scotland have to pay for their jabs, but have never heard of such a high price. Someone on the Sharm forum recently quereied her prices at the GP (not Scotland) & they agreed to refund the money charged. The nurse told her after that hse had never known the GP back down & agree to do this!

Plz query that ridiculous amount with your Dr.

Regards

I have just booked to go to Tunisia in May.. Doctor advised to have Hep A, Typhoid, tetanus & polio(this is a 3 in 1 jag).. All I have to pay is the prescription cost of the hep A.. I am in Scotland.. You should definately not be paying £200 each..

Just had my jabs at my local NHS surgery and they said Typhoid is not necessary for Tunisia. I already have Hep A, so they just gave me a Tetanus/Polio/Diptheria booster.

Hi,

Must vary from surgery to surgery then as our always says typhoid (been 4 times to Tunisia).

http://wikitravel.org/en/Tunisia &

mdtravelhealth.com/destinations/…tunisia.html & wwwn.cdc.gov/travel/destinationTunisia.aspx

also recommend typhoid.
