for the newbie's, Its not all glass and glitter.

I wrote this on another forum so i have added a bit more, i thought it should go on the main forum,

If you are going for the first time don't expect every hotel to be 5*, the hotels start basic and go up depending how much you want to paying, you are only using it as a base, not living in the room all week, they have good food, entertainment, nice garden's, pool etc, some hotels in Europe don't have as much as Tunisian hotels, most are not high rise like some Spain,

get out and about and explore the country, they have so much to offer, don't sit by the pool all week, you can do that closer to home,

if you find Tunisia poor don't go to middle or upper Egypt, they are in a worse state but that's how they live and just get on with life,Tunisia in my eye's are not a third world country but a developing country and do their best with what they have, its the same in many North African countries, once you get away from the tourist's area's and into the back streets its were true life begin's, its what draw's most of the regular's on here to go back and discover new area's, i get sick of being surrounded by tourist's complaining about the state of the streets and house's, its what it is and how they live,

if you go into the Medina in Sousse or any other town and get away from the tourist area's you see true life lay'd out in front of you, the smells, the locals doing their shopping, always happy and willing to chat to you as you have made an effort to go into their area, shopkeeper's will chat to you without the hasstle, its great, yes you will come out with smelly shoe's but the memories will stay with you,

our granddaughter who is seven will take those memories into her adulthood, she is wanting to go back and started a pocket money fund, she even made a daily diary for school and got star off the month for her effort, willing to take time out of her day to fill it in,

as for upset stomach's you can get one anywhere in the world, why blame the hotel when it could have been your own personal hygiene that caused it, don't you get them in other countries,

when you leave the tourist area's and see the locals do what they have being doing for centuries don't complain just embrace it, they don't all have sterile way's of life, its the same in most countries,

you either like it or loath it but these counties need you, with out tourist they will go down hill fast, just like Egypt at the moment,

that's got that of my chest,

alan

Very good Alan

Yes it can be frustrating reading posts from some who hated the place for whatever reason Its their right o express their views ,of course ,However much we may disagree.

One of my brothers had a rotten holiday in Tunisia and wont return.

He didn't consult Mick. So his own fault and I told him;-)

It wont be the first time someone visits a travel shop looking for a deal .

The agent says ....

"Here is a very good deal for in Tunisia .Nice hotel, on the beach .£400pp 2 weeks "

"ok" the customer says " sounds good. That will do for me,wee change from Sunny Beach and Benidorm, just the ticket "

First morning the newbie says to the bairns

"Right guys, behave ,nae carry on around the pool, am off to ask reception where the nearest Burger King is ! "

Genuinely some people have not a clue what continent Tunisia is in.

Couple of years ago (at a welcome meeting in a hotel in Sousse ) a woman complained about smoking in the hotel lounge bar the previous evening saying out loud "I thought smoking was banned in all hotels in the E.U."

OK The point am really making is that many who do visit and welcome as they are sometimes have no idea where the Country is and do get a bit of a shock.

We did on our first visit, I suppose .

However, I still have very vivid memories of that first time to Tunisia.

Got the bug very quick,No not those kind of nasty bugs [-)

That was long before resort developments we see today.

I always miss the place as soon as the home flight takes off.

Excuse typos ,errors above

To late to edit;-) I convinced a friend a couple of years ago that Tunisia was worth a visit

He said "What.. Africa! Too far Mick"

I explained it was a shorter flight than Turkey and Greece

Long story short ..He has returned 3 times and also talked his golf club committee into adding Tunisia to their annual beano list along with Portugal,Spain and Turkey.
