Day trip to Dougga?

Is it more convenient to visit Dougga (by public transport) as a day trip from Tunis or El Kef or somewhere else? Since we will visit Tunis and El Kef it would be ideal to stop at Dougga on the way but I think that wouldn't be possible without hiring a private car for the day as we would have luggage with us and there would be nowhere to store it?

There is indeed no place to store luggage in Dougga. Near one entrance of the site is a smail shop and toilets but they only sell crisps and biscuits and ice, so also nothing descent to eat.

So if you plan to go there for a day trip take something with you to eat. (and in summer also lot of water, it is very hot in the sun there)

Friends of us visited it with an organised trip booked by a touroperator in november (forgot which one, thomas cook or thompson) and were very enthousiast about it)

We drove there 2 times ourselve in a rental car when we stayed in Sousse.
