In all my visits to the resorts, this trip was the worst I have encountered regarding bad behaviour from some cab drivers.
We stayed at the Houda Beach in Skanes ,first 2 weeks in April.
Directly opposite the hotel entrance is a taxi rank(mostly yellow cabs)
As soon as guests leave the hotel gate ,the drivers cross the road and start the spiel.
Yet, most guests are just wanting to cross the road to go to the Shopping centre, adjacent to the cab rank, or to the Safari Bar along the street.
Both the Centre and Safari being the only places to visit immediately outside the hotel.
Yet these guys on a daily basis were harassing and following guests along the road.
I met guests who after having been badgered by a cab driver did not again venture out of the hotel. That is not on. People should not feel like prisoners in the hotel.
This was something that really enraged me.
It spoiled some guests holidays, particularly first time visitors who wont be returning.
We also got pestered by one or two cabbies.
One in particular who followed me for about a hundred yards offering me all sorts of excursions at extortionate prices ( I was only going to the pub, a two minute walk along the street!)
On one occasion I refused the same cabbie,(he was there most days outside hotel)) his "offer" of a deal to go to Port El Kantaoui.
I chose to hire the bigger white taxi for half the price.
The yellow cab driver then proceeded to "lose the plot" arguing and shouting.
It was this incident that led me to reporting him.
I reported this to Imed Ben Ali, the manager of the Houda Beach Hotel.
He called the cab control office and reported one driver in particular.
Not just for my benefit, although it did upset a member of our party recovering from major surgery and my 2 year old great-grandson.
I was also upset about others being frightened to leave the hotel ,due to this behaviour, and the effect that would have during the holiday.
These cab drivers are mostly "independent" operators, owning their own cabs.
However, they are bound by regulations and rules of local authorities.
So if you have an issue with any cab driver(most are fine, by the way)
Take his number and inform your hotel.
The hotel will also give you cab tariff/prices for many destinations.
Regards and Happy Holidays
