Elephant Camp, Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe

On the advice of friends our 23 day trip was arranged by travel agent Gelle Ritchie of Live-4-Africa Travel, www.live4africa.com. We visited 5 safari camps in 11 days & then spent 12 days in South Africa. All camps & hotels were great and as advertised, the flights & transfers smooth & timely. Gelle who has visited all the safari camps quickly answered all our many questions (this was our first African trip) that made us feel comfortable dealing with her. We have recommended her to friends.

After spending a day getting there from Canada, The Elephant Camp Apr 25/27, 2014 was perfect to unwind & relax. The camp was clean, the staff friendly & very helpful, the food delicious. We especially liked the dinner setup that allowed guests to meet & intermingle resulting in our dinners lasting well into the night.

Elephant Camp is very different from other camps due to its "tame" animals. Well not really tame but guests can ride & feed the elephants. It also has a 2 yr old cheetah 'Sylvester" rescued as a 5 day old after a lion killed its mother. Sylvester can be petted, taken for walks and it will lick your arm, a strange sensation due to its course tongue.

The camp is 15 minutes from Victoria Falls and staff will arrange helicopter rides over the falls, walking tour of the falls and a river cruise above the falls where you will see elephants, hippos and crocs.

Great place to stay and mingle with the animals.

Thanks for the great post.

We are staying at Elephant Camp in October. I was wondering, what was the River Cruise like? the internet suggests it is a trip for 100 people. is it busy/crowded are there options to get smaller scale trips?

Thanks

Hi there,

Many of the river cruises are on big boats with the sorts of numbers you refer to. There are some smaller options. I have used the Ra-Ikane which takes about a dozen people. Much better than the big boats!

Hope that helps.

Thanks Wayne

Did you book before (if so how) or do it when you were out there?

Hi there,

I booked it when in Vic Falls - just ask your hotel/lodge or a local travel agent.

We stayed at Elephant Camp in April and it arranged our river cruise. In addition to my girlfriend and I only one other family of three was on board plus two guides. The cruise was great and with this particular boat we were able to get much closer to the falls than the other boats. Saw elephants, hippos, crocs plus numerous birds species. Recommended

Now that sounds perfect. Did you book it before you went or when you arrived?

Booked while staying at the Camp. You can also book flights over the falls and elephant rides.
