Private safari

Hello,

We're going to a wedding in Kasane/victoria falls around easter and wanted to book a safari before or after. However, i dont see a lot of reviews on TA and I'm not sure how it typically works. We (2 people) were thinking 4-5 days and aren't sure what to expect in terms of pricing. I believe botswana is more expensive than most areas but is it worth the price? Or alternatively, can you get just as good an experience by flying somewhere else and paying less per night/ person? We'll be flying from abroad into and out of Joburg but will definitely need to be in victoria falls for the wedding anyway.

We definitely want our own room (i.e no tents/ mats) and would be interested in seeing the difference in prices for more luxurious options..

Probably the two most sensible options would be somewhere in northern Botswana- either Chobe or fly into the Okavango from Kasane, or Hwange in Zimbabwe. Easter is late March/early April this year, and given that timing I would probably go with Botswana. Late March will be low season, early April might be into shoulder pricing so I would try and go before the wedding. I would try the Kwando camps which have pretty good rates until the end of March- last year they extended these special rates into April, so you might want to check if they have done the same this year. Of their camps, Kwara would probably have the best game viewing at this time. With 5 nights you could consider 3 nights Kwara and 2 at Lagoon or Lebala.

If you do this before your wedding I would fly into Maun in Botswana (via Johannesburg), into the camps and then onwards to Kasane. You can then leave from Vic Falls or Livingstone. At a guess-timate I would say this would cost $500-600 per person per night (starting Maun, finishing Kasane) but would depend if you do one or two camps as doing two would add in an extra transfer.

As these are fly in camps you would share game drives with other guests (max 6 per vehicle), if a private vehicle is a must then you would probably pay about $400 a day extra for a private vehicle.

There might be other camps with specials in Botswana at that time- worth asking a tour operator in Botswana for other ideas, but the Kwando special is a solid option and pretty good value. I use Safari Specialists in Maun.

Hi

I will suggest a simple itinerary that will fit in your short stay. I will suggest 3days 2 nights in Hwange National Park.... you can stay at the ivory lodge outside the park and you spend the day in the park. Very reasonably priced but worth it.

Then you just do a day safari into chobe National Park from vic Falls.

At the same time you will enjoy the adventure activities that Victoria Falls has to offer.....

The park is still green or lush but it’s still very nice to go on safari.

So basically you fly into Victoria Falls international airport .... optionally drive straight to Hwange for two nights then come back to Victoria Falls and spend two nights or so with one day to visit chobe National Park.

You do not say where exactly is the wedding but Vic Falls has a lot of accomodation varieties to choose from....
