Fishing upstream from Vic falls

We are staying in Vic falls for 2 nights in December, just after Christmas. 2 adult and 2 under 12 yo boys.

I would like to hear of any suggestions of reasonably priced places to stay to do a bit of fishing for a day/night.

Alternately somewhere enroute down through Botswana returning to Jo'burg.

Hi Dessibabba

The two camps on the river on the Zimbabwe side are Matetsi and Imbabala. These are exclusive safari camps and you can expect to pay upwards of US$250 per person per night.

These are your only options for fishing camps, but you can always stay at any of the hotels in Victoria Falls and then arrange to go fishing for the day with one of the fishing companies in town. This will cost roughly $230 for half a day and US$330 for a full day.

Ultimate lodge in Victoria Falls town offer accommodation and day fishing trips and this might be your best option.

The fishing however is better the further upstream you go from Victoria Falls.

If you are planning on going this Christmas I would suggest making a booking as soon as you can because Vic Falls is pretty full up over the festive season.

If you want something else to consider try crossing the border into botswana to the town of kasane. You can get There in a minibus or taxi for not that much. Accomm is expensive but if you do your research you should get a guesthouse for not that much. The chobe river is a great place to fish. Local guides are on the river ready to take you. When I went plenty of tiger fish around but they are tough to catch. Border crossing is easy by african standards
