Can you change sterling in Santa Maria ? Have seen a few comments about taking Euro's. Going to the Rio Garopa in October for two weeks. Got a great deal this weekend. Prices have since gone up quite a bit. Seems September has more rain than October.

Yes you can, go to a bank with your passport to get escudos. If you want euros change your money at your departure airport.

You are better off with escudos. 110 escudos = 1 euro. But most places will give you a 100 escudos = 1 euro rate. 10% loss, not much for small purchases but I suppose it can add up.

I will get some Euros and take some £s too. Less than 6 weeks now.
