Visiting Mauritius for Honeymoon

Hi ,

I'm visiting Mauritius in Feb for 6N-7D, & sight seeing is only for 3 days, can you suggest any activities for remaining days. Could you please advice on below.

1) I was thinking of Catamaran DolphinTour & visiting Casela nature park or diving, what do you suggest?

2) which currency should I carry?

3) Can INR be exchange for MUR (is it advisable?)

4) Online Booking a package for watersport is OK or we will get better bargain there?

5) How much cash we should carry. (lunch & water sports). exclude shopping?

6) Any Do's / Don't or suggestions if any while visiting Mauritius.

7) Can we hire scooter or Bike there? is it advisable or should hire car

P.S. I'll be staying at Tamassa (South)

Thanks in advance

Currency: Take Indian Rupees and exchange it for Mauritian Rupees at the arrival halls at Mauritius airport. Do not listen to people who will tell you to bring Euros or US$. Remember the majority population of Mauritius is of Indian origin so it makes no sense as to why they would not accept Indian rupees.

Do your packaged tours and then decide what else you want to do. Your own hotel may offer a free introductory dive as well as free water skiing.

I would rather hire a car than a scooter.

Good advice from Preston.

We've hired scooters before (north & west) and enjoyed using them. Just be aware of dogs and other road users - as you would anywhere in the world.

Be sure to leave some time just to relax and enjoy what your resort has to offer.

Hi Tejas,

I am going to Tammassa in mid May. I too have the same questions you have listed here. Since you already have visited the place you will be the best person to answer my questions. Can you pls reply to each of the questions you have mentioned?

Hi Deepak,

Below is what you are looking for

1) Currency - I prefer $ as i carried the same exchange few (100-200) at airport (shibani finance) bargain for the rate as you will get more than what is on display. later exchange money at port louis from local exchanger. there is one diagonally opposite to Casino at Port Louis.

2) Things to carry –

A) Water / Juice - On the way to hotel ask your tour operator to stop at any mall and get 5ltr can, as in tammassa water is costly.

B) Milk - If you are habitual to Coffee/ Tea, do carry your own from India (Tetra pack). as i did the same. Tea / Coffee powder & maker is available in the room.

c)water shoes / snorkeling kit - you can carry your own. As hotel has their own timings for all this.

d) Waterproof camera – If you have it , do carry n go for snorkeling. The corals & fishes are really beautiful. (from Hotel Boat House)

Personally I didn’t like the sightseeing much except Il Aux Cerf Island. Don’t book any water sports package online as you have to book it from your tour operator. I didn’t go for any water sports while sightseeing but those who done it didn’t like it much. Better you do it in the hotel itself. Tammassa is very nice hotel & Hospitality is also very good. You have lots of things to do in the hotel itself. If you want to go for a catamaran tour I would suggest you to go from Hotel – boat house or one private operator called ‘Babu’ (230-7381173 / 9034753).You will find him near Tammassa sea shore. I heard about him thru Trip adviser only. He can arrange for all.

Scooter or bikes are not available near Tammassa if you know driving you can hire a car. But transport is very expensive. There is nothing to buy from the Mauritius except some souvenirs.
