Mauritius in August

Hello all,

We are thinking of going to Mauritius on holiday in August. We like to divide our time between beach and sightseeing so would like to be by a nice spacious beach and we cn hire a car for ightseeing. We would like to be in walking distance of bars/restaurants as don't like to be tied to eating at the hotel. We were also wondering if the weather will be good enough for a day lying on the beach? If anyone can help us with any advice it would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks, Catherine

Even though its winter, for UK visitors the weather will range from warm to hot. At worst even on cloudy days, it will be like summer's day in Britain, there can be sporadic rainfall.

Here is a helpful weather link.

I would stick to the north or west. Consider hotels in or around Grand Baie. Take a look at the Merville Beach, Mauricia, Martim, Victoria, Veranda Grand Bay.

Le Mauricia is best placed for walking into town. Most hotels in Mauritius are a little isolated, some are very isolated, it's part of the charm for many of us. Also most offer half board packages to reflect the location.

Mauritius is a great place for just relaxing taking advantage of hotel facilities or getting out and about, plenty to see and do.

Mazza :-)

Another vote for Le Mauricia, if you want to get out and about. Perfect location! Have stayed at Le Morne in August and despite a bit of wind and a few showers we got good tans and spent every day in the water either sailing or snorkeling.

Also check out this weather link which gives annual temps including August.

The south easterly monsoon blows at its strongest in July and August so its windier on the east and south coasts so if possible stick to the north, the north west and the west coasts.

Le Mauricia and Veranda are good choices as both are within walking distance of Grand Baie if you want to be at the hub of things.

Also look at any of the hotels close to Flic en Flac on the west coast - a long walk into Flic en Flac but just a few minutes drive.

Flic en Flac is much smaller than Grand Baie but has everything you need - bars, restaurants, shops, local tour operators etc.
