Help needed please !!!

We are a group of 6, going to Mauritius in September, staying at Le Meridien. Want to do Lion Walk at Casela, do we need to book before we come from Australia or can we book once we get there. Also we want to hire scooters while there, is there a supermarket close by to pick up snacks, alcohol etc. All advice will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks Lyn

Hi Lyn

We generally don't recommend that you book in advance for trips. However, walking with lions is the exception so I'd do it from Australia to ensure that you aren't disappointed.

You'll be able to hire scooters at Le Meridien and there are a couple of local shops nearby where you can pick up supplies. But it would probably be better to go into Grand Baie (about a 15 - 20 minute ride) and stock up at one of the bigger supermarkets. You'll get a better variety of goods and better prices, too. We use SuperU which is a huge hypermarket just back from the beachfront in Le Salette Road. Turn at the only traffic lights in Grand Baie.

Remember to take a driver's licence with photo and carry it, together with scooter hire docs. at all times. Police are pretty strict and often stop drivers to ask for documentation.

Regards

Walking with lions/leopards is the only activity which is probably worth booking in advance as the numbers are limited.

There is a small store near the hotel but its worth getting a cab to Grand Baie and going to a hypermarket. You should also be able to hire a scooter at Grand Baie.

Thanks so much for your help, will definitely book here in Australia for Lion walk.

Sorry to be a nuisance, but the dress code for men of a night, is it the go everywhere, or just at the hotels and upmarket restaurants.

Dress code will be for the restaurants at the hotels only. But if you are going to an upmarket restaurant outside of the hotel I would follow the same dress code, to be on the safe side.

Thanks Dee. It is always best to know the do's and dont's of a country that you visit, so as not to offend. You have helped immensely. Thankyou.

You're welcome. That's the beauty of TA - you can speak to people who have actually been there and done it all before so you know more or less what to expect.
