Currency

Hi,

I understand the Mauritian rupee is the official currency but like many other areas of the world is the American dollar widely sought after. Not sure what to take? Thanks

1. Re: Currency

Take sterling and convert to MUR's at the exchange booths in airport arrivals.

You get a batter rate in Mauritius than the UK.

You dont need US$ for shopping, taxis, tipping etc just MURs.

The US$ is not accepted in Mauritius, a few shops claim to be Euro only but will accept Mauritian rupees. As above convert sterling at the airport exchange booth.

4. Re: Currency

Please don't tip in anything other than Mauritian Rupees. Other currencies are useless to the locals.

Best rate is at the airport as previously suggested. Not worth changing even the smallest amount until you arrive, the exchange booths are open to greet every flight before you exit the airport.
