First time to Mauritius

Hi everyone,

We have planned to go to Mauritius at the end of September for 2 weeks and staying at Zilwa Attitude which we have read is a fairly new resort trying to keep things traditional which we are looking forward to. We normally go to the Caribbean so this is a step into the new. So with that in mind I was wondering if anyone would help with a few questions please

- Has anyone stayed at this resort have any hints or tips for things to take with us, to look out for etc?

- How much spending money is usual to take? (we are staying all inclusive so spending will be for any extras, tipping and possible trips)

- Is there anything that people who have been could recommend not to miss whilst we are there?

Any advice would be hugely appreciated :)

Hi,

I haven't stayed there but looked around when it first opened and was quite impressed - see my visit review here:

tripadvisor.co.uk/ShowUserReviews-g3186967-d…

One tip I would give is to not book trips with travel reps or the hotel but to get on the bus to Grand Baie and take a look at what the local tour operators are offering at much better prices - ie catamaran trips to the northern Isles etc.

Grand Baie is worth a visit anyway for shopping - it has some good places to eat and night life as well.

Zilwa is a little isolated at Calodyne but everywhere is easily accessible by bus or taxi.

Not a bad idea to hire a car for a few days too.

For what not to miss suggest you look at the Top Questions to the right of this page - Things to Do and also read through these to get an idea of what Mauritius has to offer:

tripadvisor.co.uk/Attractions-g293816-Activi…

I would also recommend buying or borrowing the latest Globetrotters Guide to Mauritius - its a concise and very informative little guide book which also has a handy pullout map.

Spending money is an individual thing but take credit cards and change some sterling into MUR's in airport arrivals to cover tipping and incidentals.

If you need more cash then there's a Thomas Cook and a Shibani as well as other money changers at Grand Baie.

Current exchange rates are

Don't forget the moz repellent and high factor sunscreen - same as the Caribbean!

Whatever you do don't change money at the hotel - the rates are appallingly low.

Alladin I'm sure you will have a lovely holiday in Mauritius and particularly at Zilwa.

Apologies that your thread seems to have gone off topic because of a troll's postings.

Please do ask if you have any further queries!

Regards

Bronia :-)
