Driving from Maputo to Ponta Mamoli

We're going to Maputo for 1 night in August (2014) then driving to Ponta Mamoli in a 4x4 with 2 toddlers. Has anyone done this drive recently? Is it safe? How long does it take? Should we take the car ferry from Maputo across the bay?

Hi Vanessa,

Taking the ferry is much much faster than going all the way around Boane.

The drive is safe but serious 4x4 driving. There are lots of very sandy areas.

Are you going to White Pearl? The drive from Catembe takes about 2.5 hours. The big thing to be careful of is if you are going on a Saturday morning. You can be in the line at the ferry for hours and hours
