what's the association to check on a tour operator?

the tour operator I am considering using will not accept credit cards.. only wire transfer.. which of course, makes me a bit nervous.

anyway, I can't find the thread that had the organization where you can check to make sure the operator is "legit".. I am sure he is because he is always recommended here.. but for insurance purposes, I want to be 100000% sure.

and there is no sidebar for it on the forum (unless I TOTALLY missed it)

thanks for any help

Most of the Tour operators in Uganda use wire money transfer.

Credit card machines are not easy to get in Uganda they are processed in Nairobi Kenya and it takes along process.

Normally big and large companies like big super markets that carry out many transactions stand a chance of getting the credit machines.

Well , some tour operator companies accept credit card payments but this is at an extra sur charge.

The credit card facilities are easy to get and provided the company is genuine and holds a genuine bank account , it will easily acquire that machine for processing a credit card . There shouldnt be a problem though some of them fear the risk of handling credit card transactions given the strict terms and conditions.

The only problem about credit card payments is that the sur charge for most tour companies that accept credit cards is big as the banks require between 5.9-8% sur charge for credit card transactions.

Also if you opt to pay by credit card, most Ugandan tour companies will ask for a lot of paperwork like scanned copy of the passport , driving license,a signed authorization letter from owner of the card , with all the address . So it ends up being bureaucratic if you do not have some of the required paperwork.

Some accept credit cards but with a fee which usually is prohibitive.

I would prefer paying by credit card even with the additional charges.

Then you always have the possibility to contest a transaction afterwards.

When paying by bank transfer you haven't this possibility.
