budget for bagpacking india

hi me and my girlfriend are planning to bagpack india for a couple of months in November December time, we would like some help on how much money we would need a week?

we don't really like dorms or really cheap dirty places, so were willing to pay a little extra for a clean room preferably with aircon if needed. don't mind eating street food but nothing dangerous...

we like to travel around and see as much as we can.

thankyou very much for any replys

Hi Mathew

A decent accommodation with aircon, depending on the city can range between INR 1,000 - INR 1,500. Fooding can be taken as INR 400-500 per day per person. However, you can mix your accommodation with night travel in train. This will reduce your stay cost. November and December is the period when all the foreign tourists come to India. Weather wise, winter sets in and by the end of December it gets really cool in northern part of India. Its also brings lot of fog which results in delay in flights and trains.

Hi,

The months you chose to travel in India is quite busy time and things are quite expensive compare to low season. I would suggest you to make a rough itinerary to travel. If any flight tickets involve in journey make an early booking to avoid fare hike, in case of train travel try to book in advance as it sold out very quickly.Your plan to see as much as possible will increase your cost.

US$ 50 to 60 per person on twin sharing would be adequete budget for bag pack travel.
