Pre-book Hotels or transport first?

We are going to India for two weeks in February 2014 and have booked our return flights to Dehli.

Is it best to book hotels first then sort our transport links between places or to book the transport (mostly railways) first and then book hotels? I know we can only book trains 120 days before but we don’t want to miss out on getting decent hotels in each place.

You need to be more specific about the places you are going to visit in 2 weeks time.It is going to be easy for members to come up with more suggestions. It is suggested to book the hotels first as Feb is a peak season and transportation too.

Thank you.

I'm not really looking for suggestions for places to go, just if it is generally better to book hotels or transport first.

Hi,

It is obvious that railway booking can be done 60 days in advance whereas hotels can be done now. You may finalise the plans and the dates and start with booking hotels.

Exactly on 60 days prior to your journey, please start railway booking. Even if you get RAC (Reservation against cancellation, wherein you can get a seat if not berth to sleep) or waiting list please reserve tickets. It would get confirmed before your travel date.

For shorter distance like 5 hours to 6 hours you can consider taking Volvo A/C coaches wherever available in case you do not get railway reservation.

Mr. Sanjiv guide you well , you may follow his suggestion. If you are looking to book budget / low medium class hotels , even you can book after arrival in India. Upper category hotels need advance reservation.

Hello,

It is better to book transport first for because you can book hotel at any time because there are so many hotels there in India, but if you miss to book your transport then money spent on hotel booking may waste.

Although I would suggest you to book both hotel and transport on time for a happy and enjoyable trip :)

Hi - As Feb is the peak month in tourism industry, so it is advisable to book the hotels first to avoid last minute hassle.

If you wish to travel by train then you book tickets as suggested by Mr. Sanjiv. In case you do not get the reservation in train then tourist vehicle are the next option which is always available.

For booking the train ticket you can visit the govt. official website - www.irctc.co.in

Arun
