Suggestions for 5-6 days in India

Hi everyone. My wife and I have a short trip to India coming up (October). I'm looking for some suggestions for our 5 - maybe 6 - free days. We already have plans for Delhi, business and pleasure, that includes a visit to the Taj Mahal, etc. We need to begin and end our trip in Delhi, and I don't necessarily want to be hopping on a plan or train everyday.

Two ideas I have are:

1. Fly to Jodhpur (2-3 days), train to Jaipur (2-3 days), train back to Delhi.

2. Fly to Kochi (2-3 days), travel to Munnar (2-3) ... or possibly Ooty, travel back to Kochi to fly back to Delhi.

Our budget is mid-range, but we can splurge here or there. We enjoy a mix of history, culture, shopping. Any thoughts or suggestions are appreciated. India looks so wonderful and diverse - it's challenging deciding how to spend our very limited time.

You may like to combine Jaisalmer with Jodhpur. Alternatively combine Jaipur with Ranthambore.

You can do Golden Triangle----2 nights Delhi with 1 night in Agra and 2 nights in Jaipur....all these cities in GT are well connected by train/road network.

I would like to suggest you to visit the golden triangle which is Delhi, Agra and Jaipur. Since you are already visiting Delhi and Agra, Jaipur is near from Agra and Delhi both. You can travel by a cab, a nice way to explore the region more closely.

5 to 6 free days is a good deal of time to explore as far as Kochi. its amazing weather there in October. While you will have a city break in Delhi and history in Agra, you can combine the stunning nature pursuits of Kochi for a complete holiday.

jaipur and jodhpur do not have 6 days stuff... they both can be done in 3 days overall...

you should go to kochi, it is a really magnificent destination.

Kerla is known as god's own country. if you like culture do visit here.

you can go for any of 2 plans.

1. Visit jaipur and jodhpur and make it in 3 days (not a big deal, jodhpur is one day place) and then rest of the 3 days go to kocchi, in the back water tourism, chineeze net and great Indian spice tourism. You will love house-boating.

2. Visit Kochi for 3 days, and then go to Either of two place or both, Kanyakumari, Rameshvaram.

they are last points of india. and amazing place.

As visit to Agra is included during your stay at Delhi. For rest of your holiday you can drive or train to Jaipur for two nights> Drive or train to Jodhpur for two nights including visit to Osian to experience sand dunes> drive to Udaipur and fly to Delhi.

I was also going to suggest Udiapur as it is a fascinating place. Deepak's suggestion to my mind would be ideal for the time you have available. It's just unfortunate that you wouldn't have enough time to include Varanasi but it's best not to rush through each destination as then places and sights end up a blur in your memory.
