I am a fifty eight year old female, I have eight months to explore India and a budget of £4000.00 . Is this is a good idea . Can I travel alone?
You can definitely travel with this budget. It will allow you to avail basic accommodation, food & travelling by train 2-3 times in a month OR once a month by plane.
You can travel alone for sure. Welcome.:)
Feel free to ask.

Eight months, awesome :)
What are your interests, pondlady? This is a big country and you need to prioritise things based on activities and locales that suit you. Deserts? Mountains? Beaches? Wildlife? Cities? History? Textiles? Art? Food? Yoga? Volunteering? Buddhism? Rivers? Sustainable tourism? Village stays? Think about that first, then the trip will begin to fall into place.Edited: 31 December 2013, 14:17
from October to March the price of accommodation goes a little bit high and also it will be winter so I will suggest that you can go with recommended home stay
