Make my Trip poor service. Any similar experiences?

My wife and I had pre-booked and paid for a cab with Ola cabs through Make My Trip (MMT) to take us from Mumbai airport to Pune on the 12 November 2013.

After having been travelling for nearly 24 hours we arrived at the meeting point at Mumbai airport at exactly the time booked (06:30). We found no one waiting for us and we searched for several minutes. We were approached by a taxi supervisor who offered to make a phone call for us. We called the number of Ola Cabs that we had been given. We were dismayed to be told that no vehicle was available and that we should make other arrangements. When I objected that we had already paid I was told to phone later when the office was open. Having been travelling for so long I had no choice but to take another taxi at Rs5000.

Later that day telephone calls to Ola Cabs and MMT resulted in promises to call us back.

There then continued until the beginning of January an exchange of telephone calls and E mails with the explanation changing every time.This exchange resulted in both Ola cabs and MMT admitting that the driver was not at the meeting place at the time agreed. These companies refused me a refund because the driver entered the distant car park only 8 minutes after the agreed time and I should have known where he was and have found him!!! I did in fact check the meeting point before we left a total of 25 minutes after the agreed time.

No one has yet explained who told me that no car was available. This is the most important question as it forced me to spend an unnecessary Rs 5000.

In addition this incident was my fault because coming from France I had the audacity not to have an Indian mobile phone!!! a fact that I made very clear at the time of booking.

In short if you use Make My Trip or Ola cabs be prepared to suffer for any of their errors as they will support each other to the detriment of the customer and on no account pay in advance.

There have been complaints that Hotels were not booked and faced problems on arriving at the Hotel when booked thru MakeMyTrip and even in my case i got hold of them one day before in two instances when i called the hotel one day before and double confirm and they said they dont have any booking from MakemyTrip so this is something new related to Car Rental.

And on the other hand I have booked hotels and flights with no problems. Even when flights have been cancelled by the airline I have received my money back from MMT within a week. I use this company for all my internal flights when in India and for hotel bookings.

The point is not when every thing goes fine the issue arises when things go wrong and the respective company has failed, even i booked flights & hotels many many times on makemytrip and the last hotel booking was in November 2013 and it did not have issues ofcourse the thumb rule i will always reconfirm from the hotel directly 2 days before, but it did happen twice with me for hotels that they were not booked and my early involvement got hold of the problem else even i would have to stranded at the hotel, for example take the below case.

I booked a Hotel in Siliguri for my Tenant who where going on a Honeymoon they were already on the Train and expected to to get down at 6pm in the evening so i called the hotel wanted to confirm on the hotel booking booked thru makemytrip and also mention that they would arrive in the evening and the Hotel mentioned they dont have any such booking and when I called makemytrip after 30 minutes they called me saying sorry Rooms were not available at the Hotel and they will arrange other Hotel (imagine i booked this hotel around one month before) and I had a heated argument and mentioned the couple is already travelling on the train so they would get down and proceed to hotel so again taking a Print of Hotel Voucher means find a Internet Center and this is not possible then they said they have the higher category room and I need to pay extra which I declined and after a long heated arguments finally they did arrange to confirm in the same hotel same room, all these two around 2 hrs of time. Just imagine what would have happend if i had not called before and the couple would arrive at the Hotel. If someone is coming to conclusion here is another one...

I booked a Hotel at Haridwar (I think it was Hotel Disney or so) few days before i emailed the hotel and they replied back sorry we dont have any such booking from makemytrip after calling makemytrip and another 2 days the customer support said its re-confirmed now, so i send another email to the Hotel 2 days before the day of CheckIn date, the Hotel manager directly called me and said that yesterday someone from makemytrip called me and asked for Superior Room confirmation and he said they only have Deluxe Room available so the makemytrip staff said she will get back to me, and even he mentioned her name so i guess the backend staff from makemytrip did not update back on the system that Superior Room which I booked was not available so the Customer Support was just giving me routine answers that room was confirmed until i shouted and told the whole story and their staff name who called the hotel.

Few months back I did observe that makemytrip sends a email out that the hotel is reconfirmed and I dont need to call the hotel, however I dont care and I always double check.

The morale of the story is when you book from a Third Party site do confirm directly with the respective vendor, the online portals keep offering huge discounts and coupons tempting us to book from them but these things keep happening and we need to do our tasks to ensure our trip is smooth.

I also booked flights and bus tickets through MMT there was no problem. But in this case they have refunded full amount as they were unable to provide service

There are lots of negative feedbacks for the services provided by the MMT, so please beware of this company

Alright, for those who like MMT. I booked a non refundable international ticket through MMT. Later this was cancelled due to health reasons and when I called MMT, they said they can talk to airlines as it is on health grounds (this is after 4-5 months). Later, they asked me for doc certificate and even 3 prescriptions (not even 1). And a few months later, they say the refund is not possible and only taxes can be refunded. Which they are working on for last few months. In total it is 1 year now since I am waiting for the refund! Called probably a 100 times by now and since I live abroad, spend a lot of money on calls itself which takes so long to connect after all the non-sense music and lot of options! After firing a lot, every next day I get a mail saying wait for 24 hours!
