Holi 2014 - where should we celebrate?

Hello!

My sister and I are travelling to India in March of this year to celebrate Holi festival.

After Holi we will spend some time travel around the North of India.

Neither of us have been to India before.

Where should we begin our adventure?

Thank you :)

You might want to start up with a Golden Triangle trip ( Delhi - Agra - Jaipur - Delhi ) Holi festival will be good in any city, i think you just need a family to spend this festival with as that way you will experience even more of india , its culture. Good luck

You are very welcome. You can actually try Haridwar / Rishikesh ( for yoga/meditation ), Varanasi and even more of rajasthan ( Udaipur / Ranakpur / ranthambore National park ) There are just so many places you can add, just depends upon the time you have. Cheers !

During Holi I would suggest you look for family accommodation rather than a hotel so that you can enjoy Holi with the family and they can advise you on what to do/avoid. At times Holi can be rather unpleasant for women if you venture on the streets by yourselves.

Hi,

If you are travelling to especially celebrate Holi, then the best would be some home stay where you can safely enjoy and celebrate Holi with the family. Some resorts around Delhi also organize special Holi functions and offer a complete package with stay and celebrations.

Depending upon the time in hand, apart from the above suggestions, you can also visit :

- Shimla

- Manali

- Kasauli

- Nainital

- Kashmir

Although Holi is celebrated all over north India, it's best experienced in the holy towns on Mathura and Vrindavan in Uttar Pradesh. Ensure that you pick those destinations on the Holi dates. It has two main days, you can celebrate one day in Mathura and the other day in Vrindavan (Banke Bihari temple), the festivities can go long for even a week!
