Help me put an itinerary together to see as much as possible

I arrive at Mumbai on Saturday the 19th of July at 11am and leave from Mumbai back to London the 27th of July at 1pm. I have already been to Mumbai so I don't need to spend any time there.

Itineraries that I have thought of:

19th July – Fly to Delhi at 2pm (half day)

20th July – Delhi (full day) /day trip to Agra for Agra Fort and Taj Mahal

21st July – Delhi (full day)

22nd July –Kathmandu / 630am flight full day

23rd July – Kathmandu full day

24th July – Kathmandu (4pm flight to Kolkata – so half day)

25th July- Kolkata (full day)

26th July – Kolkata (full day) or fly back to Mumbai late night on the 26th

27th July – or fly early morning from Kolkata to Mumbai (Mumbai )

Alternatives 1:

19th July – Fly to Delhi at 2pm (half day)

20th July – Delhi (full day)

21st July – Delhi (full day)

22nd July – Varanasi / 9am flight – full day

23rd July – Varanasi – full day

24th July – Kathmandu (arrive at 1340)

25th July – Kathmandu

26th July –Kathmandu (fly back to Mumbai in the evening)

27th July – Mumbai

Alternative 2:

19th July – Fly to Delhi at 2pm (half day)

20th July –Delhi (full day) (day trip to Agra)

21st July – Delhi (full day)

22nd July – Delhi (full day)

23rd July – Jaipur (5am flight or 10am flight) -> full day

24th July – Jaipur - full day (overnight train to Udaipur)

25th July – Udaipur (you only need one day to see Udaipur)

26th July – Udaipur (9pm flight to Mumbai)

27th July - Mumbai

Maybe I'm trying to fit too much in such a little space of time and maybe Kathmandu in Nepal doesn't really make much sense.

If we exclude Nepal, the places I would like to visit are Jaipur, Varanasi, Udaipur, New Delhi + Agra.

Could overnight train be recommended to gain some time?

Looking forward to your feedback!

Hi Andrews,

First and foremost ... Welcome to India.

I have no commercial consideration, of whatsoever nature.

As a passionate traveller, In my sincere view....

Your Alternative - ! is the best with minor modification.

Cut-down 1 day in Delhi.

At Varanasai ... do visit Sarnath & Ganga AArti

Add one day in Kathmandu, Nepal.

Leave it to your prudent judgement.

Have a great trip of Asia.

I guess the reason I have an extra day in Delhi for Alternative 1, is because of wanting to visit Agra (Agra Fort and Taj Mahal)

Yes. This is doable if you have pre booking of train tickets. Flights are also cheap for July. Delhi-Varanasi is around INR 3000 i.e. GBP 30. So, book your train & air tickets in advance & wnjoy. :)

Hi,

Please remember, July is a season in Nepal whereas it is not season in places like Delhi, Agra and Varanasi as it would be very hot and humid plus you may have showers too.

May I suggest you to drop Mumbai and Kolkata totally.

Please concentrate on Delhi - Kathmandu - Varanasi - Khajuraho - Delhi - Agra - Jaipur - back to Delhi

This will not do any injustice to the places you visit. These places have lot to offer, so touch and go will not give you fullest satisfaction.
