4 weeks first timers with messed up itinerary

Our first time in India and having booked flights for next February without thinking of details of possible itinerary I think I have messed up. The booked tickets are to fly into Bangaluru and out of Kochi 4 weeks later. The idea was that the time would be needed for visiting Karnataka, Kerala and the Lakshadweep islands. However, due to difficulties getting to the islands have decided not to go there. Dilemma is do we fly/train up to Delhi from Bangaluru to visit sights round Delhi and Agra for5 days or so and then maybe onto wildlife park to try to see tigers.

We are intending to visit Mysore, Wayanad, Hampi and the Kerala backwaters - probably not in that particular order.

Our interests are to see the temples etc but also as much wildlife as possible.

Is it sensible to travel up for the week? Can the travelling in GT be done easily independently?

Any suggestions, comments would be welcome.

Thanks.

Hi,

As you have already booked your flights, you can visit South India for a couple of weeks and keep another ten days for Golden Triangle and Rajasthan. And you can visit Goa for another 3-4 days.

For North, your order could be Delhi - Agra - Jaipur - Jodhpur - Udaipur. You can do Golden Triangle in 5 nights and stay a couple of nights each in Jodhpur and Udaipur.

Thanks

You can do GT in 5 days and can independently travel. All these places are very well connected by rail and road. For Tiger spotting you need to go to Ranthambhor National Park. If interested in birds you can visit Bharatpur bird sanctuary. logical sequence wil be Delhi> Agra> Bharatpur> Ranthmbhor> Jaipur> Fly to Bangaluru or drive to Delhi.

Since you have limited time for the Golden Triangle, I recommend a flight from Bangalore to Delhi. 5 days is enough to do this.

You would need to hire a car in Delhi for the Golden triangle journey. If you do so you can set your own schedule and pace of visits. Check out this link to the site of a Delhi Government company for a price benchmark on car hire charges.

In addition to the sights in Delhi, Agra and Jaipur, you can also check out the Bharatpur Bird Sanctuary and the Ranthambore Sanctuary for wildlife.

Hi,

I may suggest you the following itinerary for you.

Fly into Bangalore. Visit Hampi by overnight train or Volvo Bus.

with 4 nights and 5 days you can cover Hampi, Pattadkal, Badami.

Take a train and reach Goa. You may spend 4 or 5 days on Goa beaches.

Take a flight to Delhi 2 nights and 3 days

Flight to Khajuraho 1 night and 2 days

Fly to or take a train to Varanasi 3 nights and 4 days

Varanasi to Agra by overnight train. 1 night in Agra and 1 night in Orchcha by taxi

Back to Agra and take a train to Jaipur 2 or 3 nights

By train or rented car and driver to Jodhpur 1 or 2 nights

By car to Ranakpur Jain Temple and Kumbhalgarh 1 night

By car to Udaipur 3 nights

Fly or by train from Udaipur to Mumbai 2 nights and 3 days.

Take a train or fly to Mangalore and hire a taxi to take you to

Belur Halebidu, Chikmagalur, Coorg, and then to Wayanad and Munnar. It may take a whole week and half at least where you can stay in excellent homestays, see the finest ancient architecture, forest, coffee and tea plantations, natural falls, adventure treks etc.

Then you can spend couple of days in Kochi in backwater etc. and fly back home.

Hope this helps.

Thanks everybody for really helpful suggestions. Need now to look up places and work out methods of travel. Maybe it is doable after all.

Link to car prices is very helpful too. So thank you. Local homestays or small guesthouses are what we hopefully would like to find to stay in.

To be honest we have decided that won't really spend time on beaches, maybe just to see a classic white sand beach lined with palm trees! That would be nice. Our main aim now is to see temples, wildlife and stay in small family places.

How do we find homestays?

Thanks for any help.

Dear visitors

As per your interest in GT and wildlife. I suggest you can visit Delhi-aagra - Ranthambhore via fatehpur sikri and abhaneri step well to jaipur. In Ranthambhore you can visit tiger resort for minimum two games ride for watching tiger.

Hope it will be help you for your Delhi-aagra - Ranthambhore - jaipur itinerary. fm jaipur you can take flight for Goa or kerala.

Cheers

fatehpur sikri looks amazing. As does abhaneri step well. This really adds to the decision making. How on earth do people decide where to go when there are so many not to be missed places?

Thank you for your suggestions. Will now have to print out a load of maps and draw possible itineraries on them!

You will need to fly into Delhi and perhaps fly out of Jaipur to Kochi ( via Mumbai).

So after doing Bangalore to Hampi trip ( in between you can do various other places on that route includingf Badami , Aihole, Bijapur ) , you can possibly get to Hyderabad rather than coming back to Bangalore.

And from there take a flight to Delhi and then do agra and Jaipur( possibly Ranthambore if you have time) and then fly back from Jaipur on to Mumbai ( you would need apossible night /day here ) unless you get a connecting flight To Kochi.....and then spend rest of the days here.

OK. It looks like we will be able to fit N and S into our itinerary --but realise won't be able to see all the amazing places.

How do you book homestays? Are they advertised on websites?

Thanks for all suggestions.
