Nepal hiking costs

Hi

I have been on two Annapurna hiking trips before.

We are planning another trip for this year, but the porter we used previously is giving me some very strange prices.

Can you please help me with the following questions:

What would accommodation be at a tee house on a hike?

How much will a plate of dal bathe be? He tells me its cost now 10US$.

He also tell me their is a new government law that you need to pay 65US$ per day to hike.

It this true? I cant find anything on the internet regarding this new law.

Would really appreciate your help.

Kind regards.

Well, either the guide is answering 'in east' when you are asking 'in west' or he is trying to make very good business for him self, I think. I have not heard of any new law.

TIMS Card, Fee: 20 USD (2011)

Annapurna Conservation Area Entry Permit (ACAP), Fee: 27 USD (2011)

Due to the financiel crisis and the bad exchange rate the prices may have increased a little in 2012...

The exact prices for Tea House and food I dont know. We trek on fixed price arranged by an reliable angent my family and I have used since 1999.

But the price for a guide per day is normally 25 USD! So 65 USD pr. day would then be covering EVERYTHING (guide, accomodation, food, ACAP, TIMS, transportation etc)

Agree with Lisbeth – Although prices have done up, there is no “Law” that mentions any fixed price for trekking so I would treat the info you have been given as suspect.

I am about to head back to Nepal in a few days and I am paying $20 for a Guide/Cook (Same as a porter guide but instead of portering he doubles up as a cook) and $15 for a porter.

TIMS are either $10 if you take staff or $20 for independent trekkers or for TIMS in advance through a TAAN registered agent.

If it were me I would contact some of the Genuine travellers to Nepal who post on here and ask them for their recommendations on agents and email them for comparative quotes and take it from there.

BTW - All the reports on here should be treated as suspect as TA doesn’t review Trekking Agencies and the reviews that are in place are under categories that they shouldn’t be such as day trips and day treks – There have been several posts from dissatisfied customers who have booked using these recommendations so Take Good Care would be my very best advice

Good Luck

The food prices you mention sound too high. In the Everest region, at Phakding in Jan 2012, a "Veg Nepali Set" was 370 Rs = about 4.50 USD. Here's a link to a photo of a menu that I snapped there: http://goo.gl/qy5x2
