3day itinerary for kathmandu with 2 kids this February, 2014

Hi! We are coming to Kathmandu in February. We will be with 2 kids age 12 and 8. Please help us plan our itinerary. I would also like to ask which hotels and restaurants would be good for kids during our stay. Thank you! Namaste

Angela

do the essential ktm

temple runs => swoyambhunath, bouddhanath, pashupatinath

durbar squares (ancient palace squares)=> kantipur, lalitpur, bhaktapur

monasteries => kapan, namobuddha, amitiabha

not enough time for taking a day trip to outskirts of valley

do an hour long mt. everest flight, if you like mountains and you can afford to

for hotels see the ranking here in TA (i rely on these on all my tavels)

tripadvisor.com/Hotels-g293890-Kathmandu_Kat…

same goes for restaurants

tripadvisor.com/Restaurants-g293890-Kathmand…

if you need a travel agency recommendation send me a PM

hope this is enough to get you started

all the best

Thank you very much, neupaneaj. Deeply appreciate the info. our itinerary is taking shape..Our flight arrives evening on a Monday, and will leave Thursday after lunch. Would it be possible to fit in the trip to the outskirts Thursday morning? Thank you again:)

Angela

if you have flight thursday after lunch you would not have enough time to do outskits of ktm

with 2.5 days you would barely be able to do even what i wrote above

Let me take a liberty of customizing an itinerary for you -

Day 1

AM - Bouddhanat, Pashupatunath, Lunch at Dwarikas or Hyatt

PM - Kantipur Durbar Square, Loiter in Thamel shopping, Dinner in Garden od Dreams or Northfield Cafe

Day - 2

AM - Lalitpur Drubar Sqaure (Or Bhkatapur Durbar Sqaure)

If Lalitpur - Lunch at Cafe De Patan or Dhokaima Cafe PM - Swambhunath and Amitabha or another Monastery nearby in Sitapaila Area, Dinner at Bhojan Griha or Rum Doodles

Day 3

AM - Everst Flight or Walk around Thamel, Lucnh at Fire n Ice or Gaia's Cafe

(just a suggestion - i am not affiliated to any of these outfits haha... )

Good Luck

Some good info already provided

Here are some alternative suggestions

With only 3 days, I would plan it this way

First night in a hotel in Thamel, then the first full day explore the Kathmandu sites including Durbar Square and Swayambhunath – Then in the late afternoon take a car to Nagarkot for a taste of hill village life and with luck a spectacular sunrise.

Then the next day visit Kopan, Boudnath and Pashupatinath, arriving in Bhaktapur early afternoon and stay there overnight.

Your last day you could either fit in a Everest Mountain flight before your international flight home – Or just do a bit of shopping

Good Luck
