From India you may need to travel as far east as Muzarfapur via main rail links and then enter Nepal border near Janakpur taking regional trains

after visiting Janakpur you can take bus to Kathmandu – which would be 8 hours away.

Look for hotels near Gausala area - it is close to Pashupatinath temple and the hotels there cater to Indians coming to Pilgrimage

Not sure the link below would have it -

tripadvisor.com/Hotels-g293890-Kathmandu_Kat…

Other temples in Kathmandu are Swoyambhunath and Bouddhanath

You may also want to visit other temples outskirts of the valley

they are Changunarayan, Dakshikali and Budhanilkantha

you can search on the web about what these temples are about

besides the temple runs you can visit durbar squares like Kathmandu, Patan and Bhaktapur

these are ancient palace squares built by “Malla” kings who once ruled KTM valley

Then you could travel south to Lumbini via bus and visit birth place of Buddha

It will take you about 6 hours. Be sure to visit monasteries built by different countries in the sanctuary

Then finally cross the border to catch the bus to catch the train in Gorakhpur to head back home.

One more thing – you can take a cable car ride (one of the highest and longest in Asia) at Kurintar – you will cross this point going to and coming back from Kathmandu on your way. Cable car ride takes you another holy temple for Hindu called Mankamana.

As for cost expect similar prices you would pay in typical tours in India for hotels and food.

Since there are 4 of you – it may be sensible to hire a private car to make your journey easier – if you can afford one. Expect to pay about ICRs 4000 per day for long and all day tours

All the best

Hai,

We are four members (all senior citizen) from Ludhiana Punjab, want to visit Janakpur Nepal. The route of our train is from Ludhiana to Jaynagar via Darbhanga. Please suggest me, weather we should drop at Darbhanga or Jaynagar ralway station, from where, it will be easier to reach Janakpur. Is there any bus service to Janakpur ? What are it's timing?
