Western companies are more expensive - they have to cover their advertising, office costs, salaries, profits. The actual delivery of the trek will be sub-contracted to a Nepalese company, so it makes sense to deal direct (via email) ith a Nepalese company.

The only benefits of dealing with a western company are that they will organose international flights for you (which you could do quite simply on line !), and if you want to join a fixed-date group departure (though some Nepali companies offer that too). A Kathmandu-based company could also sort out accommodation, and travel to and from Pokhara for you as a complete package.

It's worth googling 'Annapurna Circuit' and contacting some of the companies that will be listed - you can compare prices and what is on offer.

Agree with Alan that using a local company is better than using a international company. There are hundreds of companies in Nepal and it won't be difficult to make a selection from them. Generally, western companies operate group joining trips with high amount while you can easily private trips with Nepali companies on lower amounts than western group joining trips. So, I would also say use a local company!

it is far far cheap in pokhara than in u.k. ..

pokhara offers a beautiful scenery and homely facilities ,,, totally new experinece for outsiders.

and since the currency has low value,, everything will seem cheaper to tourists

Hi Morris J

Dealing directly with an nepali based agent will save you approx. half the price.

It is ofcourse easier to book by an agent of your homecountry, but as Alanyeti has already mentioned, they have to sub-contract with an nepali based agent anyway. By booking directly you will get the same experience or even better, but only half price.

There is a few things you need to be aware, if you book directly:

The agent most be government registered...it is madatory to work legally.

It is preferable that the agent is TAAN member...but not mandatory.

You should always get more than one qoute, so you have something to compare.

Don't transfer any money to the agent before arrival and meet/interview the guide going with you, before you pass over any money (it is normal to pay the full amount for the trek, before departure to the trekking area.

Make sure the guide has sufficient language skills.

I will happily share information about the agent I use...just PM me. And I know Alanyeti also has made some good contacts during the years.
