8 Days in Pokhara - what to do?

For various reasons we have ended up with 8 days in Pokhara after 5 great weeks in India and a week in the KTM valley. I know from reading various posts that this is too long as we are not trekking, but we want to chill out, stay away from the European winter and I need to do an average of at least 3 hours a day working on something urgently for an April trip.

How should we occupy our days? Where should we visit?

I guess that I can research the answers to these questions but any special tips would be very helpful. Where should we eat? Where should we go for coffee?

Although 8 days to chill out in Pokhara is longer than average, there is still plenty to keep you opined, especially if you take your time

Hera are a few suggestions

1) Paragliding

2) Micro-Light flight

3) Devi Falls and Gupteshwor Mahadev cave

4) Walk to the Peace Pagoda and then return to lakeside by boat over Fewa Tal

5) Visit The Tibetan Refugee camp

6) Sunrise at Sarangkot

7) Day trip to Rupa and Bengas Tal’s

For a recommendation of a Great little hotel in Pokhara, The Hotel Lake Diamond, Small family run hotels just a few hundred meters away from the centre of Lakeside – But down a side street so in a beautiful and Quiet location - I am actually typing this reply from the rooftop there now :– )

Why do not you extend your trip to other places like Bandipur, Gorkha, Palpa, Chitwan, Lumbini etc? As said on previous post 10 days are quite long to explore only Pokhara, better you think about other alternatives too!

I agree that a week in Pokhara is too long ! Consider also two nights / three days in Chitwan, or if you are feeling adventurous 2 nights / 3 days rafting on the Kali Gandaki river.

Plenty of choices on the Lakeside in Pokhara for coffee and for eating !

What did you end up doing?

My wife and I are planning a trek into Upper Mustang for next May so we can see the Tiji Festival and check out the area past Lo Manthang; last October we treked to Everest Base Camp and finished off with 4 nights at Gokarna Resort, just outside of KTM - we're looking for something different this time. We've been to Chitwan, Nargokot etc. If you or anyone else have some suggestions of where to go for some R&R after our trek (even if it's on our way back to Vancouver) it would be appreciated.

Thanks...Tommy

8. Re: 8 Days in Pokhara - what to do?

Hi Tommy

We spent 7 days in Pokhara and really enjoyed it, particularly after the pollution in Bhaktapur and KTM.

We stayed in a top floor room at the Sacred Valley Inn. We got up at about 06.30 to watch the sunrise. We had a big pot of coffee on the terrace watching the spectacle. We then had breakfast either at the Sacred Valley Inn or elsewhere, worked or read for two hours, went out for walk along the lake and a coffee, came back an accessed the internet. We had another walk in the afternoon and ended up at the Bamboo restaurant on the lakeside for a happy hour beer at about 1600. The Australian people who run it were very nice. We would then go home and have a gin and tonic on the terrace having picked up some cold tonic. We would go out about 1845 to eat. For 6 nights we went to the excellent and very cheap Pokhara Thakali kitchen. We then returned to the Sacred Valley Inn, accessed the internet and had another gin and tonic. (We were never gin and tonic drinkers until we met some people in India who sold us on the idea. Blue Riband Gin was our favourite.) We would be in bed by 2200 and roughly repeated the schedule the next day.

It was a great relaxing time and we were avoiding the cold northern European winter. We met lsots of people who were hnagng out in Pokhara for a number of days.

Our major activity was to walk up to Sarnagkot for the sunrise on a lovely clear morning.

Hope this was of interest
