Taipei to Shifen and Pingsi by Train

Hi

I gather that the trains to Shifen and Pingsi from Taipei are seated like the MRT trains in Singapore. Are there a few train services that have allocated seats or none at all for trains to Shifen and Pingsi?

No allocated seating for trains running on the Pingsi railway branch line as these are DRC (Diesel Rail Car) trains with seats to the sides of the cabin as in MRT trains.

Train stations (in sequence) on the Pingsi railway branch line:

Ruifang > Hou-tong > Sandiaoling > Dahua > Shifen > Wanggu > Lingjiao > Pingsi > Jing-tong (terminal)

There are many classes/types of trains running on the railway line between Taipei city and Ruifang.

Thank you for the info. May I ask how long is the journey from Taipei to Ruifang and from Ruifang to Jing-tong?

Train ride from Taipei city to Ruifang takes 36~48 mins, depending on type of train.

Train ride from Ruifang to Jing-tong takes about 40 mins.

Recommended to explore the more commonly visited places like Hou-tong, Shifen, Pingsi and Jing-tong along Pingsi railway branch line on a separate day. Include one place on the same day with Jinguashih, Jiufen and Keelung is still possible.

Thank you taiwanDIY

I would love to visit all 3 but just due to time constraint.

If I go on a separate day, I have to take the train to Ruifang on both days?

If I have already visited Jiufen and Keelung on the 1st day, what other places within TPE is nice to slot in for the later part of the Pingxi day? Thank you :)

Consider a night stay in Jiufen or Keelung city so that you need not travel back from Taipei again to visit the places in Pingsi.

Shenkeng Toufu Street, Taipei Zoo and Maokong Gondola are some places you can consider for the later part of the Pingsi day, depending on how much time you have.

hi,

Can the train from Jhongli Station goes direct to Ruifang? Or I have to take to Taipei Train Station to get to Ruifan? Can I book the tickets on the day of departure instead of advance?

Thanks
