which are the best islands to stay on not too commercialised

in Thailand for a couple of weeks in Aug 2009, which are the best islands to visit please, not too commercialised will be staying in the cheaper end of the market, possibly something a little quirky if anyone has any ideas. do people recommend Koh samet for a couple of days before heading in the direction of krabi etc.

One choise is to choose the eastern coast and head to Koh Chang direction. That island is already well known but there used to be nice (cheap) bungalow style accommodation in the southern tip of the island. Along the main road in the northern area, that's busy with everything, then follows the new beach hotels before the simple huts. Nowadays though I'm not sure how much of them are left, maybe someone else can help frm this forward?

From Koh Chang further south, there are smaller islands too, partly very undeveloped but for ex. Koh Kod has some nice hotels. Stayed in Away Resort and liked that a lot; they have even tent accommodation as one "room type".

Koh Samed is my old favourite beach treat for quick "holidays". Avoid the nothern coast and head to south, remember that behind the most difficult entry/area has the best and intimates huts.

Take a ferry to Vong Duen beach and start walking, there are nice beaches on both sides of that main beach.

Another nice choise is a bit further east along the coast from Ban Phe, Koh Mun Nork Island. One of the best kept secrets with one hotel on entire small island.
