Thai Airways...upgrade?!

I am flying on the night flight from LHR -BKK in August, I am guessing they are still using the 747-400 on those flights so I have my ipod complete with movies at the ready!

My question is, do they do an upgrade service? some airlines if the flight isn't full allow you to upgrade for a fee but much less than you would have paid if you have bought a full ticket...do Thai do these?

Flew TG quite a few times, and never seen them discount upgrades.

Hi,

I too have never seen same-day or advance purchase cabin upgrade for cash option presented.. I have seen many promos like "buy full coach, fly business" and such, but not on upgrades..

They do have many upgrade options available thru their mileage program-- Royal Orchid Plus (ROP)

The only other situation I could see upgrades happening is thru so-called "Op-Ups" or Operational Upgrades done when a lower class cabin (ex: economy) checks-in over capacity.. However, the passengers selected to receive these Op-Ups are normally passengers who hold elite level membership in ROP or have purchased the highest fare levels.

They do offer an upgrade at departure, ask at check in. I think last time from BKK to Melbourne it was about US$600
