What US $ denomination to bring?

Just wanted to check if you had any problems changing $100 US bills in Thailand.

Lat year while in Malaysia the money changers refused to take the US$ 100 and US$ 50 bill notes starting with the series number AB or CB and US$ banknotes older than year 2003

Should we be aware of any similar issues in Thailand?

We will bring some US dollars and ATM card.

Do any denomination of dollars gets better rate than others, $20s, $50s, 100s versus $1.

$100 bills get about 1/20th of one baht better rate than $50's. $50's get about 1/10th of one baht better than $10's and $20's, so for small exchanges (under $1000) there's hardly any difference.

Bring only crisp new-ish notes, make sure they have no marks or tears. Old, Torn or ink marked notes are shunned.

Hi,

Fourb is correct... In some cases, the bank will "lump" $100 and $50 bills into the same rate.. the same will probably hold true for $20 and $10.. and $5 and $1.. but again, do realize that the difference is *very* nominal unless you exchange a decent amount..

What I do think is a larger "risk" per se, is that you accidentally bring torn, ratty or otherwise marked bills and they're subsequently denied by the bank.. Notes that you may use at home in the US are much more readily accepted and passed between users.. Here, banks-- for good reason-- watch and inspect incoming notes very closely and will tend to err on the side of conservative.. It's my experience that they 'watch' if you will the larger notes.. again for good reason.

In most cases, if you tell your bank "I'm going overseas and need clean notes for exchange" they'll understand and give you better condition notes.
