Where to go as a family

Hi there,

We are heading to Thailand in beginning of March for 3 weeks with our 5 year old son. We would appreciate advice on where to go. We fly in to Bangkok and were thinking of 3 or 4 days in Chiang Mai and then would like to spend 8 or 10 days on 2 different beach locations. We want to stay at beautiful beaches with nice food options around (tastylocal cuisine rather than upmarket) and good swimming for our son. We were thinking maybe Hua Hin and then Ko Phanang or Krabi? We would rather avoid the bigger touristy islands but i guess a lot of Thailand has developed since i was there 12 years ago! Would appreciate any suggestions

hi , what about the bang tao /surin area of phuket and khao lak 1 hour north of phuket airport on the main land as an option.i think that these 2 destinations would meet your criteria of good beaches with out being over touristy.

If you're looking for a quieter place I would choose either Khao Lak or Koh Lanta especially if you want a good beach fro swimming.

Krabi will be a great location for quiet place > Railay , you can take boat to Koh Hong for nice place to swimming there.

Koh Lanta is a good option , quiet , the beach can swimming and can take speedboat to visit other islands around Lanta for nice snorkeling.

How about Koh Lanta and Koh Jum? Both can be accessed by a flight to Krabi and the same ferry route - so you don't waste your limited time traveling from one place to another.

Koh Lanta ist schon etwas touristisch geworden aber bleibt noch sehr rühig. Koh Jum is relativ unentwickelt mit einem langen fast unberührten Strand, kleine Bungalowanlagen und ein ideales Thai Fischerdorf.
