Itinerary - 2 Months, 4 countries.

Got a rough plan for 2 months (64 days) in SE Asia and wanted some guidance and advice on my itinerary. Too little time?...etc.

Also better transport ideas?

London to Bangkok, arrive on 18th June evening.

4 days in Bangkok.

(22nd June) 10 day booked tour from Bangkok, through Cambodia finishing in HCMC in Vietnam.

2 weeks(too short???) travelling by train through Vietnam from HCMC to Hanoi. Stopping at Nha Trang, Hoi An, Hue, Ha Long Bay.

Hanoi to Vientiane by bus or pricey flight(???) 1 week in Laos from Vientiane to Luang Prabang via Vang Vieng.

Luang Prubang to Chang Mai (Bus is best???)

3 days in Chang Mai. Fly/bus (???) down to Phuket .

1 week on Phuket coast area/phi-phi and other islands.

Bus (???) and boat to Ko Samui/Ko Pha-ngan/Ko Toa for 1 week.

Bus/train (???) back to Bangkok for 21st August flight.

This rough plan gives me 9/10 days extra to allocate so I can stay somewhere longer if I like...etc.

Cambodia is an easy destination to do independently. What's your Cambodia tour itinerary?

If you're starting in Laos at Vientiane, then do 2 nights there. Bus (4 hours) to Vang Vieng (2 nights). Bus (6-7 hours) to LP. Try and allocate more than 3 nights for LP.

A Laos Airways flight from LP to CM is only an hour. The much more atmospheric boat from LP to Huay Xai, and then bus to CM will eat into your time. Here's a blog on the boat trip...

If you've got a few days left at the end, and want side trips from Bangkok, then Ayutthaya and Kanchanaburi are worth 3 days each, or from Kanchanaburi you can go a bit further west to the Sangkhlaburi and Three Pagoda Pass on the Thai/Myanmar border. The Sangkhlaburi area is beautiful and peaceful. All are easily done by public transport. Train is best imo...

Already booked a tour for Cambodia. usual stuff there.

Is flying the best way from Chang Mai to south thailand, even though it is pretty expensive?

We got a VERY cheap Air Asia flight from Chiang Rai to Bangkok for January. Flights for 5 of us (3 are kids) came to NZ$230. There are loads of Air Asia flights from Chiang Mai also. Not sure if they do more destinations than Bangkok.
