Entering Thailand from China?

Hi,

Is there an easy way to to get from Yunnan province in China to Thailand?

Would it be best to take a flight to Bankgkok or is there an overland route via bus or train into northern Thailand?

FYI - I am an American in my late 20s and do not speak either Mandarin or Thai.

Thank you!

Hi,

I would fly, especially if you plan on spending more than two weeks in Thailand.

China and Thailand do not have a common border, so you would have to travel through Laos. http://wikitravel.org/en/Laos#Get_in will give an idea.

China Eastern http://www.flychinaeastern.com/ has a direct flight to Chiang Mai from Kunming, which would be the easiest and fastest way of getting into Northern Thailand.
