Spending money for Thailand

Hi

We're going to Thailand in a few weeks and I was wondering if roughly £300 per week will be doable. We are planning to do a few tours here and there andat most will be staying in better guesthouses and cheap hotels.

£300 per week is less than 2000 baht per day. If that is for two persons including the accommodation, you can survive but you won't have much fun. An organized tour easily costs 1000 baht per person or more. With that budget you probably can have one tour per week if you stay in the same location, eat simple local food and drink about one beer per day (food & beverages would cost less than 200 baht/person/day).

If the £300 is for each person who are sharing accommodation, it should be adequate, but using domestic flights for transportation probably won't be an option. It will help, if you stop in each location for 4-7 days, since transportation costs will eat less into your budget.

yeah the £300 p/w is per person plus backup. A lot of travel is already paid for as we bought domestic flights already. Just the overnight from Bangkok to Chiang Mai lef to pay for. 2nd class sleeper - any idea how much roughly? Seen a few different prices but the cheapest seem to be at Hua Lamphong station on the day (or day before we have to take it.

You can see the schedules and fares on the State Railways of Thailand site www.railway.co.th/checktime/checktime.asp…

The location selection is tedious since the stations are not in English alphabetical order, but also Chiang Mai is there if you scroll down far enough.

In a 2nd class special express sleeper upper bed is 791 baht and lower bed 881 baht.
