Honeymoon in Phuket AND Koh Samui!?!?

Hi all,

We are looking at going to these parts of Thailand in May next year as heard they are fantastic. What is weather like in both of these areas in May?

We want 12 nights probably 6 night at each, has anyone done anything similar? Is it worth visiting both? Any better suggestions? Are flights ridiculously expensive going from phuket to koh samui and home to london from there?

We will definitely need the relax time by then but also we are not just a 'sit in the resort and do nothing' kind of couple.. we want to be near enough to lovely restaurants and maybe bars. We'd also like to be near enough to places if we want to do the odd excursion should we fancy. Also staying right on top of a stunning beach would be ideal!

However being our honeymoon we are looking for exrra special accommodation..what can people recommend?

Any advice/previous experiences will be appreciated!!

Thank you xx

Hi

You can't really compare the two.

The whole of Phuket is province there are many beaches some are busy some are not and some are between. Phuket offers more on land as its easy to access to nearby provinces by road, easy access by boat to many islands nearby and as far as to Krabi province. Phuket is 15-20time bigger than kh Samui. Phuket also easy to get to and from Bangkok or international flights form nearby countries.

Koh Samui are very small island, one of many distract of Surathani province. From Bangkok you can fly doted to koh Samui with either Thai or Bangkok airways ( not cheap) or fly to mainland sour bus and ferry transfers. Or you can go by bus or trains with ferry transfers ( take longer time to get there). Koh Samui offers things to do on the island as well as water base activity the like of island hopping snorkeling etc. but a lots less than Phuket. You can visit nearby island/s ( koh Tao , koh phangan).

The weather in koh Samui ( east coast) coming to dry season, Phuket coming to rainy season. But that said no one can tell what the weather going to be like each year. Thailand is tropicals country you will have odd showers here and there anyway.

With 12 days you can easily split your stay. But I would just pick one as both are beach destinations. I would suggest maybe 7 nights in either koh Samui or Phuket and the rest stay in Bangkok with day trip to around neighboring place the like of Ayuthaya p, kanchanburi for sight seeing, the ruins, temple, cultures and histories. But that's my thought of course :)

Cheers,

It won't be a problem splitting the 2 because we've done this many times in May, only in 2012 did we have to change our plans because of continual bad weather in Phuket but this isn't a normal situation the weather is usually cloudy/sunny in the morning with some showers in the afternoon whereas in Samui it is better with only a quick shower in the evenings usually after 6pm. This year we split Samui with Boracay which we loved.

For got to add if you're decides to split your stay between koh samui and Phuket. There are flight with Bangkok airways ( only fly this route) direct to and from koh Samui - Phuket. There are 5 flights daily.

May you will get a very nice villas for a very good price in both koh Samui and Phuket as both places are in shoulder season. However you didn't indicate your budget per night its hard to give recommendation in koh Samui alone there are over 300s-400s hotels double that figures in Phuket. For the mean time have a look on here www.sawadee.con/ and make short listed of the hotel that you're interested then comeback here, we than can help you out further.

Hi, I've been to Samui many times this year (we got married there in July)

In May it was so hot - we live in Malaysia (although Australian) so are used to the heat/humidity and we really struggled.

Our preference is the InterContinental at Baan Taling Ngam, for our wedding we had a great villa on the beach with a private pool.

It's a remote location but perfect for a honeymoon and you can take day trips to Chaweng, Nathon if you want to shop (pretty ordinary shopping anyway)

In Phuket, we stayed at Amanpuri. A very special place and experience.
