Bangkok for New years eve - looking for ideas

We're arriving in Bangkok on the 31st Dec and plan to stay for the night before heading off around Thailand. I'm unsure where would be the fun to spend the evening and also looking for any recommendations of nice hotels, so not the most expensive! But a fairly nice one would be great. we're planning on coming back to Bangkok at the end of our trip so will have more time to look around then. It's just purely NYE ideas I'm looking for. Any suggestions would be gratefully received! :)

I think I'd be heading down to the River for fireworks. Check out here for some fancy budget boutique hotels, Riverside, Rattanokoskin and Khao San Road are all within easy reach of the river.

Riverside for firework or big countdown in front of central world are best 2 choices.

December is peak tourist time so you need to book your hotel soon.
