Smoking

Is smoking is completely banned in public places ( pub,restaurant,beaches etc) or i can smoke easily ?

As I recall, smoking was banned in all air-conditioned premises including bars and restaurants in 2008, subject to a 2000 baht fine for the smoker and 20000 baht fine for the business owner allowing smoking. In 2010 the ban was extended to all indoor public places, workplaces, public transportation and some outdoor premises (e.g. public parks and sports competitions).

Unfortunately for us non-smokers the enforcement is extremely lax. In many bars the staff will promptly hand you an ash tray when you light up despite the signs banning smoking being prominently displayed. :-(

You can smoke easily but please have regard to non-smokers and do not smoke where signs of No Smoking are displayed even if others are doing so.
