trouble with insects

Has anyone holidaying at Centara Villas Samui had any bad experiences with mosquitos or sand flies. We are visiting the resort in May and my wife is susceptible to insect bites. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks . Brynn and Pam.

Hi, thailand is a tropical country so there will always be mosquitos, the only thing to do is make sure your wife takes a good repellent and uses it often. I don't know about the Centara Villas but they spray the grounds with repellent at the Centara in South Chaweng in the evenings so it's not so bad.

She should use a good high percentage deet repellent (day & night). Boot keeps them.

Wear light long sleeved tops and pants in the evening.

Apply sunscreen first (wait 15-20 min) then apply your bug spray - don't forget to do places like under the arches of your feet

Dear 6999gods. I'm not sure that the Thailand Tourist Board would agree with your comment.

Boots own 50 Deet is really good, we use it when we went to Goa. Obviously you need to make sure you spray at dusk and dawn which is usually when the little pest are most active, but we just make sure where we had not covered with clothing was spayed really well, if shes wearing a log dress I would still do her legs. I wasnt bitten once. Boots also usually do two for price of three which all helps toward the pennies.

Like the others suggested, make sure you use a good repellent day and night. We also used to spray our room at night before we headed out for dinner. Some suggest the plug in mosquito things as well - I have never bothered but they can be useful.

Mossies love my husband - we can be outside at home and he will get heaps of bites where I hardly ever get bitten. By taking the above precautions, on our last trip I think he maybe got 1 or 2 bites over a 3 week period.

Dusk and dawn just don't cut it any more! Dengue carrying mosquitoes bite at all hours, so the repellent needs to go on before breakfast, and continue until you retire for the night.
