Itinerary suggestions please

Hi, we are heading to Thailand in May on our honeymoon. We will be there around 3 and half weeks. We are flying in and out of Bangkok and know we want to see as much as possible but end with a few days on the beach.

We have bought a Lonely Planet Guide but it is so big it's quite daunting not knowing where to start.

If anyone has any suggestions of excursions/treks that are must sees that would be great. I've been told about a 3/4 night elephant trek but if anyone has first hand experience that would be fab.

Thanks

Hi

From Bangkok you can head to Chiangmai or Chaingrai. There you can do 3-4 days trekking. From Chiangmai you can fly down to either west coast ( krabi or Phuket) or east coast ( koh Samui and its neighboring islands).

Read FAQs and see which fit in with you.

Cheers,

May is the beginning of the rainy season on the west coast, so stick with the east coast. Have a look at Koh Samui. This might work better -- and is more up to date -- than Lonely Planet: http://wikitravel.org/en/Thailand

In May I would look at Koh Samui, Koh Phangan or Koh Tao for you beach time.

The above company in addition to their advertised tours and treks I believe will also do bespoke tours and treks from Chiang Mai to suit you.
