Evening dress code bars/restaurants?

Hi,

I'm visiting Bangkok, Chiang Mai and Koh Sumai in June. Just checking what the dress code is for going out in evenings.

I'm wanting to do a sky bar one evening in Bangkok, otherwise will just be eating at restaurants and visiting bars in the evenings (middle of the road places, nothing too fancy).

Is dress code normally shorts, Linen trousers or chinos? I don't want to offend the locals but also want to be comfortable.

Thanks

Shorts, Linen trousers and Chinos are fine. Just no shorts in some of the rooftop bars in Bangkok.

Hi

In koh smaui and Chiangmai you will be fine with those you mentioned. However in Bangkok the upscale restaurants and bars have stricter dress code eg no trainers, no shorts etc.

E.g. the Sky Bar at lebua is pretty strict on shoes, too. www.lebua.com/mezzaluna/pages/dress-code

You may find long pants and even long sleeves to be a nice protection against mosquitoes while outdoors and just comfortable enough while eating in an air-conditioned restaurant.
