Family of 4,SE Asia trip for 6 mnths….

Hi all

Just wanting to pick a few peoples brains about hidden gems and high recommendations. We are a family of 4,myself(34),my wife(32) and our 2 children(9 and 7).

We fly into Bangkok on the 4th Dec,then the rest as follows…..so far…….

Dec = overnights train to Surat Thani, then transfer to Ko Lanta

7 days = Beach holiday in Ko Lanta, then transfer to Ao Nam Mao

4 days = Beach resort,Ao Nam Mao,…then transfer to Khao Sok National Park

3 days = Jungle House(staying in the Tree house),Khao Sok National Park,

2 days = Phuket(Lemon House)

7 days = The Baray Villa in Phuket…..

29th fly to Bangkok from Phuket

5 days = Bangkok for new year

2 days = Kanchanaburi area

2 days = Ayuthaya

4 days = Sukhothai

2 days = Lampang

Then plan on staying in Chiang Mai/Rai area for 7-10 days….Then Chiang Rai area for 7-10 days..

Has anyone any recommendations in area of these areas,we have children so need to cater for them, but they are very good walkers and love sight seeing/history….im thinking of a stay at Chai Lai Orchid park for the Elephant experience???…

From here we need a route into Cambodia??..potential 2-3 weeks in Cambodia..

Then into Vietnam for 4-6 weeks taking us to beginning of April 15,I'm giving us April to then decide if we want to re-visit any particular area we loved…..May I'm hoping to explore into Malaysia for Kuala Lumpur/Langkawi and Singapore……we then leave end of May from Bangkok to Rio,for 3 mnths in South America…..then into the US for an 8 week road trip….

Thanks and any advice is great…….

Hope you've got your visas for Thailand and other places organised and your children's leave of absence from school ;-) That's an incredible itinerary, especially with two kids in tow.

Hi Mark

At your tender ages, you won't qualify for a 90 day visa. By my reckoning a single entry Tourist Visa which is for 60 days will cover your first visit and allow you to cross into Cambodia by land (or air). If after your other country visits you return to Thailand by air before you fly out to Rio you will get a visa exemption stamp for upto 30 days. If you want more than 60 days you can a two entry Visitor Visa (@ £25 per entry upto maximum of three) before you leave home. You can get a Visa On arrival in Cambodia or pay a bit extra and get an electronic one from home. Can't help about Vietnam, sorry.

As for Khao Sok, both your resorts are very good and popular resorts. Our Jungle House is near the Sok River on the same side as most of the other accommodation in what is now called Khao Sok Village, so nearer to local restaurants and few shops and the main entrance to the National Park. Khao Sok Nature Resort is on the other side of the river and is accessed further up the highway and down to the resort. No restaurants etc on that side of the river.

Hope this helps.

You can make postal applications for your visas with the Thai Embassy or goon the day without an appointment. You can go by appointment only now for a 60 day visa to any Royal Thai Consulate. You can download the application forms at supibee.thaiembassyuk.org.uk/?q=node/151

As for Things to Do, you are going to so many places you are better visiting the forums of each of them as they will have lots of information in the Top Questions and the Things to Do link on the green menu bar on he top of the page and many knowledgeable people to help with any questions.
