Best advice is that you do some research.
TA is not a free Travel Agents service.
Hi there
You may not realise this but TripAdvisor is not a travel agency. You need to do your own research, have some basic ideas of what you want to see and do and then start asking questions to "fine tune" anything you are not sure about. The people that answer questions on TA love to help but cannot if they do not know details such as likes/dislikes, budget etc. Most also like politeness and do not like being treated like a free service.
There are many places on the internet to research Thailand. Lonely planet, Travelfish, the FAQ section of this site etc etc. Mr Google is your friend and helper!
As its so close to when you want to travel and you have no idea where you want to go it actually might be best to use a travel agent and be guided by them.
Good luck planning.
It depends what your family of four like doing? Nature, culture, shopping, beaches?
If you intend to do something in the Phuket area you will have to fly. Bus ride to Phuket is around 12 hours just one way. That means buying 4 round trip plane tickets.
Keep it simple! Bangkok and either Chiang Mai (or maybe Hua Hin for Phuket) and back to Bangkok for a night or two. Just 2 places for your short visit. A final full day and night in Bangkok will be good for shopping and put you only a taxi ride to the airport.
Go to the Phuket, Chiang Mai or Hua Hin forum for specifics. Hua Hin you can get to with a 3- 4 hour taxi ride from Bangkok; or you can use use a cheaper bus or train.
If you try to visit too many cities you don't have time to see much.
