rough plans for my trip

hello everyone

ive got a while yet before my holiday but ive been putting together a rough itinerary for my week in Bangkok and I wondered if people could improve it in terms of what I could link up with the bits ive already decided. I don't want to rush so id rather do everything at a nice pace and some of you guys have been giving me some great tips so its time to start putting them to paper. (or web )

The late king's cremation takes place the day after I arrive so im keeping plans quite loose as not sure how that will effect things there. ive decided against a beach trip as I don't think I can fit it in and still visit the weekend markets so just looking for ideas in the city or just outside, oh and im a solo traveller.

So as a rough plan

I arrive on the wed late afternoon so thought id go to Siam Paragon mall and hopefully the sea life/ocean world. Nice and easy when Im tired after the flight. Im staying next to nana so be easy enough to get to Siam.

The next day is the cremation ceremony so im just going to go for a wander and see how things are and then in the evening I was planning on doing a dinner cruise on the river. I think I will be doing the Banyan Tree hotel one on the Apsara. Looks very nice and more peaceful than one of the party style boats.

On the Friday I think I will go to Ayutthaya, at the moment I'm planning on getting the train and then hiring a tuk tuk when I'm there. I did look at some day trips but sometimes don't like being forced to rush to see things.

Saturday I was thinking Taling Chan floating market and a longtail/rice barge cruise on the canals

Sunday will be Chatuchak weekend market

Monday - hopefully the main temples and the palace. Im hoping a lot of the thai crowd will have left. I will try and climb to the temple which is up like a 1000 steps but may do that on another day early in the morning when it is hopefully a bit cooler.

Tuesday possibly the bangsue area. someone said this was amazing for wood carvings.

Wednesday is open and I go to the airport late evening.

I would also like to visit a night/train market

maybe a lady boy show if I can find one I like the look of.

soi cowboy

other shopping malls

and lots of massages 😃

Thank you, it's good that you are willing to "keep your knees loose" for the cremation. It may well be that farangs are made welcome for this. (I'd pack some black wardrobe.) There's an outside chance that you might feel like an outside intruder on the other hand.

The temples will be crowded no matter wat. ;)

Hi lost_kitten,

1. Taling Chan, Talad Rod Fai Ratchada (Night Market) and Chatuchak Market are only on weekend (Sat & Sun).

2. Grand Palace, Emerald Buddha Temple and other temples or palaces in Bangkok has dress code. In respect of the late King, try not to wear bright colour clothing. Regards of dress code, go direct to Grand Palace Bangkok website and you will get more information from there.

3. You can also go Yaowarat (Chinatown) at night for food if you have the time.

4. Talad Neon Night Market is in Pratunam which can pay a visit.

5. Terminal 21 is know as airport shopping mall as with different countries theme on each floor. The food court there serve reasonable price of Thai & Asian cuisine.

Do pay a visit to their toilet, it is Amazing!

Suggest do all the palaces and temples visit in one day and possible same area.

Suggest do the market visit on weekend.

If you still have extra time, go rooftop bar for vie or chao phraya dinner cruise with view also can.

If you go down to Asiatique one evening you could take in a lady boy cabaret at Calypso and depending on the type of massage you are looking to get I would suggest Healthland they are all over BKK. Not sure where you are staying but there is a branch in Asoke. Why not include some shopping at MBK whilst around Siam Paragon as SP the most part is quite high end unless of course that is what you are looking for. Personally I love wandering around MBK and they have a couple of decent food courts if you get the munchies whilst getting your retail therapy.

I will go to mbk and terminal 21 at some point.

and Riverside Asiatique looks good.

im staying at the landmark which is next to nana. I am on a bit of a budget but will try and prebook a few of the things I want to do before I go.

I might try and find a good tour as well to help me explore :)

I always try and have a rough structure to my day with plenty of time for extras. im there for 7.5 days so plenty of time :)

I also plan on visiting some sky bars/rooftop bars. will try and get an idea for good food places as well but kinda planning on mainly using food courts in the evenings. will eat breakfast at my hotel and street food during the day. I probably wont be out super late as wake up early and on the go most of the day.

will I be able to put my shoes in my bag at temples rather than leave them outside?

Some temples have cloth bags outside to pop your shoes in and carry around with you. You just leave them back by the door when you come out again.
